Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s Thanksgiving here in America, and at my house, we look forward to a fantastic meal and giving thanks for all of the privileges and goodness in our lives. There’s a lot to be thankful for, especially when so many other people are struggling. A healthy pregnancy, a little peace and quiet, and having a wonderful son and husband top my list.

Everything’s cooking, the house smells incredible, and the only thing that would make it better is to share the day with our friends and family. Usually someone’s here, but this year, it’s just the 3 (4) of us. And I absolutely will be eating for two! It does seem like there’s not much stress at all when you’re just cooking for your little crew.

Oh, and I’m not going to pretend like I’m not super excited to bring out my vintage Franciscan Starburst dinnerware, either. I don’t often use the whole set- sometimes the tea or coffee set here and there, or a bowl for display. It’s so great to be able to get all these pieces out and use them for something so special.

Our current table is a vintage Heywood Wakefield whalebone table that belonged to my paternal grandparents. It is one of my most prized possessions, and the Franciscan Starburst pattern is a similar vintage. The pattern was first produced in 1954, with varied reports of the end of production (many think it was in the 1960s). Franciscan was eventually bought and sold a few times and ended up under the Wedgewood company, which is pretty neat.

I’ve been collecting Starburst dinnerware for about 4 years now, and I always have an eye out for it at antique stores and occasionally, on ebay. Such a wonderful (if not quite seasonally festive) way to enjoy the holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving!
